Slipknot is a heavy metal band from Des Moines, Iowa, USA, who started in September 1995 and have been active ever since, releasing a total of five studio albums (including “Slipknot,” “Iowa,” “Vol. 3 (Subliminal Verses),” etc.) in that time. The band’s “Before I Forget” performance took home the Grammy.

Slipknot’s original lineup was Paul Gray, Shawn Crahan, Corey Taylor, Jim Root, Craig Jones, Chris Fehn, Joey Jordison, and Mick Thomson after a few lineup changes in the band’s early years (Sid Wilson replaced Crahan in 1997). In 1999, the band released their debut self-titled album, which debuted at position 51 on the Billboard 200 and became certified double platinum, significantly boosting the wealth of the band’s members. The album’s sales and the musicians’ fortunes were boosted by a tour from December 1999 to November 2000, which took them to Denver, Sacramento, Phoenix, Berlin, Nijmegen, Monza, and many others across the United States and Europe.
Their second album, 2001’s “Iowa,” debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 and was later certified platinum the following year. After the album’s release, the band went on indefinite hiatus so that its members may pursue other interests; this included Corey Taylor’s joining Stone Sour and Joey Jordison’s founding of Murderdolls.
The group reconciled in 2003 and quickly began recording what would become 2004’s “Vol. 3 (Subliminal Verses),” which debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 and was certified platinum the following year. Before I Forget, the album’s third single, won the 2006 Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance.
All Hope Is Gone, the band’s fourth studio album, was certified platinum and debuted at number one on the Billboard 200, significantly boosting the band’s and its members’ combined wealth.
Two years later, a tragedy hit the band: Paul Gray was discovered dead in a hotel room in Urbandale, Iowa, and autopsy reports proved he died of a morphine overdose. The band continued their activities for another three years when Joey Jordison left for personal reasons.
Alessandro Venturella and Jay Weinberg joined the band shortly after, and they began writing and recording their follow-up album, “.5: The Gray Chapter,” in 2014. Like their previous albums, it became a critical and commercial success, debuting at number one on the Billboard 200.
In addition to their studio albums, Slipknot has also produced a live album (2005’s “9.0: Live”) and a most excellent hits album (2012’s “Antennas To Hell”), all of which have contributed to the band’s growing fortune.
