On May 6, 1915, in Kenosha, Wisconsin, USA, the multitalented George Orson Welles was born. Famous works under his stage name Orson Welles include the 1937 Broadway play Caesar, the 1938 radio drama The War of the Worlds (which sparked widespread terror), the 1941 film Citizen Kane, the 1955 film Confidential Report, and the 1986 film Touch of Evil (1958). He left us in 1985.

Orson was born to Beatrice Ives, a pianist, and Richard Head Welles, a businessman. He received a Harvard scholarship after graduating from the Todd Seminary for Boys in Woodstock, Illinois. Still, he opted to enroll in the Art Institute of Chicago instead, dropping out after just a few weeks.
Orson made his acting debut in the drama “Jew Suss” at the Gate Theater in Dublin, Ireland, in 1931. A few more of Gate’s productions later, he moved to London, UK, and then back to the United States. Welles started producing plays, including “Voodoo Macbeth,” “Horse Eats Hat,” and “Dr. Faustus” for the Federal Theatre Program in 1936. However, the real breakthrough came with the Broadway production of “Caesar” in 1937, which was followed by a radio broadcast of “The War of the Worlds,” a radio drama adaptation of H. G. Wells’ eponymous novel, Which caused mass panic among listeners as it was so realistic that people believed that extraterrestrials were attacking New York City. However, all these commitments allowed Orson Welles to establish himself in the entertainment world and supplemented the riches he had inherited from his father.
Welles’s performance as the lead in the film drama “Citizen Kane” (for which he also wrote, directed, and produced) was a significant hit in 1941. To recognize his efforts in this film, the Academy Award was bestowed upon him. In 1946 he featured in the drama noir movie “The Stranger,” following which he traveled to Europe where he was cast for numerous Italian movies, such as “Black Magic” (1948), “The Third Man” and “Prince of Foxes,” all in 1949. Through the 1950s, ’60s, and ’70s, Welles worked alternately between Europe and the States, acting in and directing masterpieces such as “Confidential Report” (1955), “Touch of Evil” (1958), “Crack in the Mirror” (1960) as well as “The Trial” (1962) and “The Deep” (1967). In 1970, he relocated to Los Angeles, California, and began working on Hollywood movies like “Waterloo” (1970). (1970). When it comes to his personal life, Welles was married three times – with Virginia Nicolson, between 1934 to 1940, with whom he had one child. In 1943, he married actress Rita Hayworth, and throughout their five-year-long marriage, they had one kid also. Paul Welles was married to Paola Mora, the mother of one of his children, from 1955 until he died in 1985. He had a heart attack and died on October 10, 1985, at 70, in Los Angeles, California, USA.
