Griselda Blanco was born in Cartagena, Colombia, on February 15, 1943, and passed away on September 3, 2012, in Medelln. She was a famous drug smuggler who went by several aliases, including “The Black Widow,” “The Godmother,” and “La Dama de la Mafia” (The Lady of the Mafia). Her drug trade involvement precipitated Griselda Blanco’s wealth and untimely demise.

First, she had a difficult upbringing since she and her mother moved away from home when she was only three years old. She was 11 years old when she murdered her first person during a botched kidnapping. She left her mother, who frequently beat her when she was 14. The young lady started working as a prostitute when she was 16 and continued doing so until she was 20. Blanco and her husband, Alberto Bravo, immigrated to the United States in the 1970s, settling in the Queens borough of New York City. There, Blanco established a big cocaine operation, which contributed millions to her overall wealth.
For her criminal career, Blanco was nicknamed “Black Widow,” after the female black widow spider, which is said to kill the male spider after mating. She was arrested in 1985, accused of many offenses, and given a sentence of more than ten years in jail; however, further charges meant that she didn’t get out of prison until 2004; she was then deported to Colombia.
Griselda Blanco has been depicted in various documentaries, the most well-known of which are probably “Cocaine Cowboys” (2006) and “Cocaine Cowboys 2.” (2008). In the telenovela “La Viuda Negra,” Ana Serradilla plays her role (2014). Jon Roberts’s 2011 novel “American Desperado” has Blanco as a significant character. Blanco’s life story has also inspired another book, “La Patrona de Pablo Escobar” by José Guarnizo. Blanco’s narrative is also being adapted into a film titled “The Godmother,” which is now under development.
Griselda Blanco’s personal life has been anything but secret. She was initially married to Carlos Trujillo, with whom she had four children: Michael, Uber, Osvaldo, and Dixon. With her second husband, Darwis Saavedra, she had a son called David Saavedra Jesus Santos. Allegedly, she had both of them slain, and maybe not unexpectedly, all of her children were killed while taking part in their mother’s drug-peddling operations. Before her death in 2012, Griselda Blanco was last seen at the El Dorado International Airport, Bogota. She was slain in a drive-by shooting in Medellin, Columbia, another victim – if that is a suitable phrase for her – of drug-gang violence.
